Product Details: Everything You Need to Know
This set includes paint masks to replicate the serial number and squadron code for Roy Calvert's "Taipo" in 1/32 scale.
The Backstory
From Roy's 6th mission to his 31st, flying with No. 50 Squadron RAF, he and his crew had a trusty aircraft—Avro Lancaster R5702 "S." Roy affectionately nicknamed it "Taipo," the Maori word for devil, and even had it painted as nose art.
Taipo was more than just a plane to Roy and his crew; it saw them safely through countless challenges. But on their 31st mission, the night of November 9, 1942, disaster struck. Taipo was hit by flak and fighters during a raid, and Roy tragically lost a crew member for the first time in his RAF career. Despite the damage, Roy heroically brought Taipo back to Britain, crash landing at RAF Bradwell Bay. His courage that night earned him his second Distinguished Flying Cross.
Included in the set:
- 1: Serial Number Masks, “R5702” (+2 spares)
- 2: Squadron Code Masks, “VN-S” (+1 spare set)
Application Tips and Additional Information
➡️ Spare practice masks are provided. Check out our Paint Mask Tutorials page for a step-by-step guide on how to use and apply our masks.
➡️ Transfer tape is included with this set. Transfer tape helps accurately transfer and position masks or decals onto the model's surface, maintaining alignment and design integrity while protecting the mask adhesive. Look for two 3"x6" pieces of transfer tape (clear tape with blue grid lines on a white backing) included with your masks.
How to Apply Main Markings Using Transfer Tape
🌟 Choose Your Material 🌟
This paint mask set is available in your choice of easy-to-apply Oramask 810 flexible vinyl or a hybrid of genuine Tamiya tape and vinyl.
Why Hybrid? A hybrid set is necessary due to the delicacy and size of some components that do not cut optimally in Tamiya tape. Please refer to the product image for clarity on what components are provided in Tamiya tape and vinyl in each hybrid set. (The area highlighted in grey is provided in Oramask 810 Flexible vinyl. All other masks are supplied in Genuine Tamiya tape.)
What's better - vinyl or Tamiya tape? Both work great! Choose vinyl if you plan to use your masks right away and Tamiya tape if you're tackling your project later on. Check out our FAQs for more info!
