I just finished the Airfix 1:72 Westland Sea King HC.4 and it came out great. However, the real hero to this build was the Kit Mask masking set for all of the various canopy pieces. All of the masking pieces were numbered, and the kit also included a set of directions that was so helpful in getting the right mask pieces onto the right canopy locations. It was slick and easy. And the model really looks great with all of the canopy pieces nicely clear, and the cross pieces sharply painted. Good stuff from Kit Mask! I can highly recommend them.
Thanks, Michael! We really appreciate you taking the time to share this. Sounds like that Sea King turned out beautifully—love hearing the masks helped make the canopy work a smooth process. We put a lot of thought into the numbering and guides, so it’s great to know they made things easier. Thanks again for the recommendation and support!
Really enjoyed using this masking kit. I got great results on my TBF-1 and the mask was really easy to use. Well-made product! I'll be happy to buy from Kit Masx again in the future.
Thanks so much, Jacob — we love hearing that! The Avenger is such a great subject, and we’re thrilled the masks helped you get the results you were after. That’s exactly what we aim for: easy to use, clean finish, less stress at the bench.
Great service as usual. Masks were great, and really helped.
We appreciate the kind words, Gary! We're so glad the Avenger set helped move your build along. Thanks for your review!
Easy to reposition if needed, no paint bleed.
Thanks so much, Christopher! We're happy to hear the masks were easy to work with and gave you a clean, crisp result with no paint bleed—that’s exactly what we aim for. Thanks for your support!
First time purchaser! I’m glad I discovered this site! Order came within a few days. Product was easy to use and fit the kit like a glove. I just finished removing the mask after a few weeks painting and weathering and the mask came off easily and did not leave any residue. The only slight drawback I encountered was the edges of the mask tape lifting along portions of the canopy that had curves. There was some bleeding of the paint under those edges but not a serious problem to correct. I would still give the product a 4/5 and will keep you in mind for future projects.
Thanks so much for your thoughtful review, Richard! We’re really glad to hear your first experience with us was a good one and that the masks fit your Avenger like a glove! 😊
Curved canopies can definitely be tricky, and we appreciate you pointing that out. For future builds, we recommend giving the clear parts a quick wash in warm water with a drop of dish soap before applying the masks—this helps remove any mold release agents or oils that could affect adhesion. Also, gently burnishing the edges of each mask with a toothpick or cotton swab can really help it seal along curves and prevent paint from seeping underneath.
Just a heads-up: areas that require masking fluid are marked on the product card. We highly recommend using masking fluid rather than extra tape in those spots—extra tape can sometimes lift the masks around it and make things trickier.
Thanks again for your support—we’d love to be part of your next project too! ✈️
