ℹ️ Aircraft & Era Guide

This iconic roundel—featuring the distinct red center dot inside a white star and blue circle—served as the standard United States military aircraft marking from 1919 until May 1942. Famously retired after Pearl Harbor to prevent friendly-fire confusion with Japanese markings, this insignia defines the legendary aircraft of the interwar era and the first desperate months of WWII.

Perfect for scale modeling, historical restoration, and accurate replication of early-war and pre-war aircraft, including:
  • Pearl Harbor Defenders: P-40 Warhawks, P-36 Hawks, and B-17D Flying Fortresses caught in the December 7th attack.
  • Early Carrier Legends: F4F-3 Wildcats, TBD Devastators, and SBD-2 Dauntless dive bombers during early Pacific raids and the Battle of the Coral Sea.
  • The Doolittle Raiders: The famous B-25 Mitchell medium bombers launched from the USS Hornet for the April 1942 raid on Tokyo.
  • Golden Age Interwar Aircraft: Iconic biplanes and early monoplanes like the Boeing P-26 "Peashooter", F4B, and P-35.
